What is the Social Security disability hearing like?
The hearings are fairly informal.
A typical Social Security
hearing room.
The only people likely to be there are:

the judge,
-
a secretary operating a tape recorder,
-
you (the claimant),
-
your attorney,
-
anyone else you have brought with you,
-
in most cases, the judge has a doctor and/or vocational expert present to testify at the hearing.
There is no jury and there will not be an attorney representing SSA.
Social Security hearings are not held in a typical courtroom setting. They are generally held in a conference room like the one pictured above.
The hearings are closed to the public.
