Social Security Disability FAQs
Can I receive Social Security disability benefits for the disease or condition I have?
In almost every case, the answer is the same - "Maybe. It depends upon how badly you are affected by the disease."
Many different conditions can
qualify you for disability benefits.
Almost without exception, the mere fact that you have a certain disease or medical condition does not guarantee that you either will or won't be found disabled. It all depends upon how sick you are.
There is a list of conditions that Social Security uses to determine whether or not you're disabled. If your condition is on that list, at the level of severity that they specify, you will be found disabled. But many disabling conditions are not on the list.
If your condition is not on the list, Social Security continues on to the next step in its process of evaluating your case.
