Social Security Disability FAQs
I am disabled now, but I expect that I
will be able to return to work after I recover from an injury or
illness. Should I file for Social Security disability
benefits?
If you think you will be out of work for a year or more you should file for Social Security.
for 12 months.
Even if you return to work at some point, you may still be able to get benefits for the time you were off work. This is known as a "closed period" of disability.
Just remember that you still have to have meet the
rest of the disability requirements to get a closed
period of disability.
